NAMMCO-JCNB Scientific Working Group meeting

The NAMMCO Scientific Committee Working Group on the Population Status of the Narwhal and Beluga in the North Atlantic and the Canada/Greenland Joint Commission on Conservation and Management of Narwhal and Beluga Scientific Working Group will meet in Winnipeg, Canada, 17-20 February 2009.

The meeting will be jointly chaired by NAMMCO and the JCNB. Among topics on the agenda to be discussed for narwhal and beluga are population biology, stock structure, surveys, abundance, catches and management assessments, as well as future research requirements. Discussion will also include a review of implementation of earlier advice, traditional knowledge and impact of human noise.

The final report will be considered by the NAMMCO Scientific Committee in late April 2009, and be available online after approval by NAMMCO Council in September.
